Posted by: Michael Nimmo They say that dogs are man's best friend. This statement rings true with the millions of dog owners and dog lovers including me. However, when a dog becomes aggressive and attacks an innocent person, there are laws in the state of Colorado that protect the injured. Under Colorado law there are multiple causes of action that can be brought against a dog owner for careless (also called 'negligent') conduct. Specifically, the law provides a statutory claim for a person who suffers serious bodily injury from being bitten by a dog while lawfully on public or private property against the dog owner regardless of the viciousness or dangerous propensities of the dog. This means that the owner of the dog does not need to know that their dog was vicious or had dangerous propensities. At Hillyard, Wahlberg, Kudla & Sloane, LLP, we specialize in helping victims who have been seriously injured--including injuries from dogs or other domesticated animals. In June, 2008, Michael Nimmo and Stephen Wahlberg settled a case for a victim of a Pit Bull attack. After filing a lawsuit and working to receive the fair amount of compensation for their client, the Defendants paid the injured person $275,000.00 to settle the claim. If you have suffered an injury by a dog bite or dog attack please feel free to contact our firm for a free consultation. |
